5 Contraindications of Photo-biomodulation (LLLT):

1. Active Malignancy or History of Cancer:
LLLT can stimulate cell proliferation, and there is concern that it may inadvertently promote cancer cell growth. Therefore, it should not be used near active or past cancerous tissues.
2. Pregnancy:
Due to the unknown effects of LLLT on fetal development, it is contraindicated for use over the abdomen or lower back in pregnant women.
3. Photosensitivity:
Patients who take medications that cause photosensitivity (such as tetracyclines, certain diuretics, or chemotherapy agents) should avoid LLLT as it can increase the risk of skin reactions.
4. Epilepsy:
For patients with epilepsy, particularly those with photosensitivity, LLLT may trigger seizures, especially if high-frequency flashing or pulsing light is involved.
5. Infection or Active Inflammatory Skin Conditions:
LLLT may aggravate infections or skin conditions, particularly in cases of active bacterial, fungal, or viral infections. It’s important to avoid using the therapy over infected areas until resolved.
